Climate and time zone

Temperatures are roughly 20-25 degree Celsius in Tokyo area in last September and early October. However, the altitude of Hakone is over 700 meters high, where the temperature is 5 degree lower than Tokyo.
The time zone in Japan is UTC+9 (Japan Standard Time). No daylight saving time is observed.

Language

Japanese is used nationwide. Unfortunately, many Japanese people cannot recognize English. Instead, many signs and automatic announcements include English as well as Japanese.

Currency, tipping and tax

The currency in Japan is Japanese Yen (JPY). Credit card is also available in many hotels, stores, restaurants and transportation systems.
In Japan, you do not have to pay a tip in taxi, restaurant and hotel. The percentage of consumer tax is 5%.

Electrical supply

The electric supply is 100V, 50Hz in the east area of Japan, including Hakone. Note that the frequency is different in western Japan (60Hz), whereas the voltage is the same.
The electric plug is Type A, which has 2 parallel flat blades; the outlet is identical to north America.


Departure on October 3

The conference will be closed after breakfast on October 3. After the conference, there are several ways to go to Narita airport.

Using a bus to Odawara and taking Shinkansen and limited-express trains is a major way to Narita. To Odawara station, there are free buses prepared by the hotel and public buses. The fare of public bus from the hotel to the station is ¥1,270. We encourage you to buy all of your train tickets before taking Shinkansen. The fare is ¥2,940 from Odawara to Narita airport, and additional charges for Shinkansen and Narita-express are ¥1,680 (non-reserved) and ¥1,660 (reserved) respectively. Note that there are few minutes in Shinagawa station. Thus do not miss your way in the station. A shinkansen train arrives at platform No.21 or 22, and a Narita-express departs from platform No.13 (see the map via the link below).

The another way is to use a highway bus to Shinjuku in Tokyo city and Narita-express. The fare of highway bus is ¥2,100. Note that all highway buses departs not from the hotel but from Hakone-en (resort place next to the hotel). From Shinjuku to Narita airport, it costs ¥1,450 (fare) and ¥1,660 (limited-express charge).

You can choose an airport bus from Odawara station. The fare of airport bus is ¥3,800. To use the first bus, however, maybe you have to hire a taxi from the hotel to the station since there is no suitable public access to reach them.

If your flight leaves Japan earlier than or about noon, please use a taxi from the hotel to Odawara station at first, then use Shinkansen and Narita-express trains. It takes about three hours from the hotel to Narita airport. There are two Shinkansen & Narita-express services per hour.

For early-morning flights, it is a best way to stay a hotel near Narita or Tokyo on October 2. In this case, we encourage you to leave the conference after evening session on October 2. The departure time of the last public bus is 17:01. And from Tokyo to Narita, it takes about an hour by bus or train.
