“Pioneering technology that supports medical care”

”Medical” group mainly develop systems that reduce the burden on healthcare professionals. Here, we introduce the example of our current research theme, noise reduction in MRI videos.

◆ Noise removal for MRI videos

――― About MRI

With improvements in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) technology, we possible to take moving pictures of moving organs such as the heart.

There are several methods for observing heart movement, such as Echocardiography, but MRI imaging has the advantage of being less susceptible to bone or air interference and less exposed to radiation than other methods.

MRI irradiates electromagnetic waves and collects the information needed to restore the image. However, when capturing moving images, the required information cannot be completely collected because more information is needed for restoration than for still images. And the missing information will appear as noise when restoring to an image.

――― Our research

In recent years, research utilizing machine learning has been actively conducted in the field of MRI, and it is expected to be active in various fields such as medical treatment.
The subject of this study is also MRI videos. It is not possible at this time to capture correct images without noise. To solve this problem, we are researching to propose the noise reduction method, which combines machine learning, filtering and signal processing.

By developing and applying this method, we expect noise reduction for images for which there is no correct answer.
